MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH AT THE ARTS CONSORTIUM!
"IN IT TOGETHER" - EXPRESSIONS OF LIVED EXPERIENCE
The Arts Consortium’s My Voice Media Center, in collaboration with the Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency, offers a connection to our community for adults who have what is known as “lived-experienced” with mental illness. This can mean through personal struggle or through experience providing support for someone else.
First Friday in May at the Arts Consortium will feature artwork made by our MVMC Participants in a show titled “In it Together”. The main attraction of our show is our collaborative installation/photo booth project, entitled, “Our World, Our Perspective”. Our participants worked together as a committee to determine the design elements, the colors, and title.
"Our World, Our Perspective" is made up of umbrellas, tent poles, paper flowers and raindrops created during our 2d/3d sessions. This installation is the first ever for MVMC, and will continue throughout May for Mental Health Awareness Month.
The goal of the My Voice Media Center is to reduce the stigma of mental illness. We provide a safe space where participants may learn to express themselves through the arts; we provide exhibition and art sale opportunities for our participants; and we help educate the general public about mental wellness and recovery.
